It’s hard to believe, but Dunn Loring Swim Club opens in just two weekends!
This past weekend our lifeguards, front desk, and snack bar teams as well as several volunteers were onsite to help bring out furniture and get the grounds ready for the season. The board is very excited for everyone to see our renovated bathrooms; it’s been 6 years since the bath house was re-built and the new floors and shower stalls are a nice upgrade to the facility.
While opening is an exciting time, it’s also important to remind ourselves about the mission of the Club: to provide a safe environment to develop community and have fun. In everything we do, safety comes first and we ask that our members, summer renters, and guests abide by our rules and are respectful to the staff that is responsible for ensuring everyone’s safety.
Take care and see you at the Club.
Dunn Loring Swim Club will open for the season at 11 AM on Saturday May 24 and remain open until 9 pm. On Sunday May 25, the Club will be open from 11 am until 9 pm and on Monday May 26 (Memorial Day) the Club will be open from 11 am to 8 pm. Operating hours for the remainder of the season are posted on the Club’s website.

Dunn Loring Swim Club Members
It appears that we may have seen the last of Old Man Winter as temperatures have slowly risen over the last week. Our maintenance teams are making use of the good weather to get the Club ready for the 2025 season. Included below are updates on our supervisor search as well as a link to employment opportunities for this season; as always, we are looking for lifeguards, swim and dive coaches, front desk attendants, and snack bar workers. Also below you can find information on lifeguard training and re-certification.
Additionally, I would like to provide a quick reminder that Club dues need to be paid or postmarked by March 15; you may put your membership on inactive status for $135. Please note that if you choose to go inactive you will retain your membership with the Club but will not be able to access the Club or reverse this decision for the season. More details are in the March 4 email sent to all members who have not yet paid.
Take care,
Matt Tully
President
Dunn Loring Swim Club
Employment opportunities at the Club are now live and can be found on the Club website.
As many of you will recall, we announced at the end of the 2024 season that Alison Willison would not be returning as supervisor; this was due to a new job she was taking with Fairfax County that would have her working a 12 month contract. A special search committee was pulled together to review options for the Club, including the evaluation of two pool management companies, NV Pools and Crystal Aquatics. For the last 10+ years, Dunn Loring has been self-managed and while we were impressed with the offerings of both management companies, the board has decided to continue to be self-managed.
In an interesting turn of events, and after extensive discussions and interviews, I’m pleased to announce that Alison Willison will be re-joining as supervisor for Dunn Loring for the 2025 season.
So, you may be wondering, how did we get here?
As we considered the various options in front of us, someone on the board asked a simple question: what if Alison stayed on as supervisor and we provided our more senior employees an opportunity to take on day-to-day responsibilities of running the Club? Alison could continue to oversee the administrative functions of the Dunn Loring, including payroll, maintenance, snack bar operations, operating permits, and overseeing the schedule, while relying on our seasoned employees to manage the day-to-day. As we looked at it, the set-up with Alison in an administrative role like this was not that different from what we would expect from a management company, with the key difference being that Alison already knows the Club very well through her work over the last two seasons. We approached Alison with the idea and she was very open to it and both the search committee and full Board unanimously endorsed the decision to have Alison return.
You should expect to continue to see Alison around the Club a few days each week this season. We are excited to be welcoming her back for another year at Dunn Loring!

With these frigid temperatures, it’s hard to be thinking about summertime and swimming, but the Club’s opening is just 4 months away. Please keep an eye out for dues notices, which went out this week via email. Dues will remain unchanged for the 2025 season and the deadline for dues payments is March 15. As a reminder, the member portal allows you to pay your dues online.
As in past years, you should expect to see work being performed around the pool grounds in the next few months ahead of the opening of the 2025 season. We will be tackling some concrete work around the training pool as well as redoing the bathhouse floor and making other necessary improvements to the club grounds.
Stay warm. Memorial Day will be here before you know it.
Take care,

Dunn Loring Swim Club
The Dunn Loring Swim Club personnel committee will soon be opening applications for lifeguards, managers, front desk workers, and snack bar workers. Please keep an eye out for updates on the work here section of the club’s website.
In recent years the Board has been approached about a member’s ability to rent their membership slot as part of a real estate rental agreement; this question has come up again more recently with respect to questions about the ability to add tenants who reside at the member’s property, allowing the tenant to use the Club’s facilities as a member of the household. As a reminder, members may not include their membership in any rental agreements for leased property. Moreover, the Board recently updated the Club’s rules to clarify that individual(s) who rent rooms or accessory dwelling units at the member’s property are not considered members of the household and are not entitled to access to the Club’s facilities as part of the member’s access rights. Per the Club’s rules, attempts to admit people to the Club in violation of the Club’s policies and regulations may be subject to expulsion or suspension of membership.
You may access a copy of the Club’s bylaws and rules here.
