Head Dive Coach

The Dunn Loring Dive Team is seeking an experienced head dive coach to lead our team for the 2024 summer season. A Division III team, Dunn Loring has approximately 60-70 divers. The head coach must be able to attend all practices and meets beginning May 28 and ending with All-Stars on July 28.

We are looking for a head coach who is supportive of young divers, who works on technique and safety while still promoting fun, sportsmanship and team spirit.Applicants should have strong diving skills, preferably with NVSL experience, and will be responsible for instructing divers, including safety and sportsmanship, in a fun, team spirited environment. Strong communication and organizational skills are a must. The head coach will work with and lead the assistant coach(es), trainee coaches and divers, while being supported by the dive team representatives. 

Applicants need to be 16 years of age or older.

A competitive salary is offered.

Assistant Dive Coach

Trainee Dive Coach

The Dunn Loring Dive Team is seeking divers on the Dunn Loring Dive Team who wish to train to be a future Dunn Loring Dive Coach. This position gives divers a great opportunity to work alongside our head coach and assistant coaches and reps to prepare them to be the best coach they can be.

A Division III team, Dunn Loring has approximately 60-70 divers. Trainee coaches work on an hourly salary as needed to best support their learning and the team and should be available throughout the season: May 28 – July 28. 

Applicants should have strong diving skills, preferably with NVSL experience, and will be responsible for instructing divers, including safety and sportsmanship, in a fun, team spirited environment. Strong communication and organizational skills are a must. The coach will work with the head coach, other assistant coach(es), trainee coaches and all dive team representatives. 

Applicants must be 15 years of age or older and a certified lifeguard.

The Dunn Loring Swim Team (DLST) is seeking an experienced head swim coach to lead our team for the 2024 summer season. The head swim coach reports to the Swim Team Representative(s) and the DLSC personnel committee and is responsible for bringing leadership, experience, enthusiasm, dedication and excellent technical swim skills to the Dunn Loring team.  The head coach will lead a team of coaches to facilitate practices and organize meet participation for a swim team of approximately 200-250 swimmers.

Head Coach qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience (USA Swim coach or similar certification required by start of season)
  • Strong knowledge of NVSL and USA swimming rules
  • Previous competitive swimming experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with children of all ages and ability levels, tailoring coaching and instruction to swimmers’ needs, skills, abilities and goals
  • Experience seeding meets
  • Experience managing and running meets
  • Experience managing and mentoring a team of coaches
  • Effective communication, organization, leadership and collaboration skills
  • Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid Certified
  • Pool Operator Certificate (preferred)
  • MAAPP/SafeSport Training completion (must be completed by first practice)

Responsibilities include:

  • Instructing swimmers, including safety and sportsmanship, in a fun, encouraging, team spirited environment
  • Leading all practices, meets, team events and NVSL events (including social events, pep rallies, NVSL meets, and setup and breakdown of meets)
  • Collaborating with Team Representatives and/or DLST volunteers to prepare for all team events
  • Preparing daily practice plans that focus on age-appropriate technical stroke development (all four strokes should be covered, as well as starts, turns and finishes)
  • Developing individual swimmer’s techniques and ensuring all swimmers receive feedback at practices and meet
  • Preparing swimmer lineups for scheduled team A meets and coordinating with Team representative(s) per NVSL rules
  • Preparing swimmers to participate in weekly developmental meets and providing guidance for stroke selection
  • Managing the team area during meets
  • Coordinating coaching staff for all DLST practices, meets and sponsored events
  • Coordinating preparation and clean-up of the pool area for practices and meets
  • Actively engaging in other team activities and social events in collaboration with Team Representatives and/or DLST volunteers
  • Maintaining team areas at the Dunn Loring Pool and monitoring safety of practices, events and equipment
  • Complying with all Dunn Loring Swim Club rules and policies as well as the NVSL rules and standards of conduct for practices, meets and DLST sponsored events
  • Attending any NVSL coaching clinics as well as pre-season training with the coaching staff
  • Fostering teamwork, building team spirit and demonstrating good sportsmanship at all times

The assistant coach reports to the Swim Team Representative(s) and assists the head swim coach in bringing leadership, experience, enthusiasm, dedication and excellent technical swim skills to the Dunn Loring team.

Assistant Swim/Age Group Coach qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience (swim instructor or coach certification preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of NVSL and USA swimming rules
  • Previous competitive swimming experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with children of all ages and ability levels, providing differentiated instruction to meet swimmers’ needs and goals
  • Experience managing and running meets
  • Effective communication, organization, leadership and collaboration skills
  • Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid Certified
  • Pool Operator Certificate (preferred)
  • MAAPP/SafeSport Training completion (must be completed by first practice)

Responsibilities include:

  • Instructing swimmers, including the importance of safety and sportsmanship, in a fun, encouraging, team spirited environment
  • Assisting the Head Coach with team practices and meets and managing an Age Group
  • Attending all assigned practices, meets, team events and NVSL events (including social events, pep rallies, NVSL meets, and setup and breakdown of meets)
  • Coaching practices, instructing swimmers in correct stroke, turn, start and finish techniques.
  • Taking practice notes and build practice plans that focus on helping each swimmer in Age Group improve throughout the summer.
  • Assisting the Head Coach with preparing swimmer lineups for meets, ensuring swimmers are prepared for participation in meets, actively engaging with swimmers during the meet, providing guidance to swimmers on stroke selection and encouraging participation in Monday B Meets, managing the team area during meets and coordinating meet logistics.
  • Providing swimmers with feedback during practices and meets
  • Actively engaging in other team activities and social events in collaboration with Team Representatives and/or DLST volunteers
  • Maintaining team areas at the Dunn Loring Pool and monitoring safety of practices, events and equipment
  • Attending a pre-season training with the coaching staff

The junior swim coaches report to the Team Representative(s) and work with the head coach and assistant/age group coaches to provide technical swim instruction during swim practice. Junior swim coaches are responsible for actively engaging with, and providing feedback to, the swimmers in their assigned lane(s) during practice.

Mini Dolphin Swim Coach

The Dunn Loring Swim Team (DLST) is seeking Mini Dolphin Swim Coaches to coordinate and provide technical swim instruction for our mini dolphin program. Mini dolphin coaches will be assigned a group of mini dolphins to oversee for each practice session.  Mini dolphin coaches should focus on appropriate stroke technique, while providing a fun and comfortable environment for the swimmers. Mini dolphin coaches should make notes as to swimmer progress and identify swimmers who may be ready to participate in a B Meet.

Mini Dolphin Coach qualifications:

  • Current or previous competitive swimming experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with children of all ages and ability levels, tailoring coaching and instruction to swimmers’ needs, skills, abilities and goals
  • Effective communication, organization, leadership and collaboration skills
  • Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid Certified
  • MAAPP/SafeSport Training completion (must be completed by first practice)

Responsibilities include:
